Show PostDon't overthink it & don't overcomplicate it. In trauma recovery we are training our mind & nervous system to NOT reflexively launch into patterns that compromise our goals & values. That realistically happens minute by minute, choice by choice, skill by skill. Easy does it.
Show PostA trauma recovery tool I use is dividing my day & tasks into chunks, & checking in w/ my supportive, realistic inner "coach" at regular intervals. Survivors are vulnerable to overwhelm & trashing ourselves for it. Pausing for accountability & encouragement interrupts the pattern.
Show PostThink of your trauma recovery as investing in things no one can ever take away from you: your beliefs, your self-esteem, your skillset. Abusers & bullies have tried to control what you say to yourself, what you focus on, & how you use & care for your body for years. No more.
Show PostI love "radical acceptance," but that tool can get misused as an excuse to not change. If we want to feel & function better, we DO need to change, which won't happen magically or effortlessly. But we need to radically accept where we're starting from & what we're up against.
