I had to cut it loose. Then, the tank to toilet bowl grommet wouldn't seat properly. On top of that, it's a 3 bolt tank instead of 2 bolts that I'm used to. So it took multiple attempts to get them tightened down evenly and not leak. It took me 3 hours and a trip to the hardware store.

JFC. The refill valve than in our toilet was ancient, so I decided to change it. I've done this many times over the years, it's like a 15 minute job to replace it. First, the locking nut underneath the toilet tank was so old that it cracked and started breaking when I tried to pick it off.
