If the left is so powerful that it can easily re-define patriotism in its image, then why not instead promote global citizenship and global working-class solidarity? This also provides one with identity and doesn't risk being re-coopted by the right to promote jingoism, war, and white supremacy.
Show PostPatriotism is currently a prominent and well defined signifier, complete with it own system of symbols. Redefining that signifying chain to exclude exceptionalism, war, exclusion, and a valorization of our actually-existing history seems like an extremely tall task, to put it lightly.
