She loved Jaws, Godfather, Last Tango in Paris, Dressed to Kill, Empire Strikes Back, Flash Gordon, 1977 Kong, The Warriors & Re-Animator; hated Star Wars, Road Warrior, 2001, Sound of Music, Vertigo & Shoah. Was pilloried for loving “trash” but her % of praise was higher than that of most critics.
Show PostLatest read, Something Wicked This Way Comes (1962) by Ray Bradbury; a philosophic, poetic tale about the desires & regrets, amplified by Mr. Dark & his travelling carnival, that haunt us-- us in 2 best friends and a father. The novel began in 1955 as an idea for a musical--for Gene Kelly. #BookShop
Show PostI wish Sam Peckinpah had been able to make his planned 1968 film version, with either Christopher Lee or Peter O’Toole as Mister Dark.
Show PostPeckinpah directing Something Wicked This Way Comes? Maybe. The core of the story is the father and the two boys, and their good natures overcoming evil. 1968? I would have wanted Robert Wise-- who directed The Haunting and the Sound of Music.
