the assumptions here include (1) no need to appeal to women voters (the majority of Maine voters) or minority communities in Maine and (2) in order to 'win back' male voters, candidates need to casually and routinely express misogyny, racism, homophobia, ablism and antisemitism.

I think the “Platner vibes” of which you speak loosely translate to “let’s idealize a blue-collar-looking white dude who lets us play out our modern fantasy version of ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington’” while women (particularly non-white ones) continue to do the work.
