...a mostly healthy 23-ish years old (and we had to have him put to sleep because he was suffering all sorts of ailments at that point). That cat saw me and my brothers grow up from elementary school, graduate HS and college, get married and have kids before he left us.

Wife and I both brought cats to the relationship, and they both lived past 20. It was a blessing for exactly the reasons you mentioned. My condolences.

It's "wealth worship" People are convinced that rich people are automatically good, smart, generous, etc. And they think it's either going to rub off on them or that somehow they're going to benefit from supporting or knowing them
