I came out at 31. I was married to a woman and had to deal with unpicking all that but the love of my life @patrickcaines.bsky.social was there for me. Family were supportive as were work colleagues. I lost some friends but have gained so many more wonderful ones. I’ve been lucky.

38 years ago, the 11th of October was sanctioned as National Coming Out day by the queer community. Some of the prominent LGBTQ+ leaders of the time believed that the most personal form of activism and representation for our community was to come out to our friends, family, and loved ones.
