And then the final 1-2 gut punch is this look like he’s completely lost with no idea what to do now. He has absolutely no one he feels he can go to for emotional support, all he can do is wrap his tail around himself for comfort, so he just curls in on himself and breaks down.

Then this is the part that *really* fucks me up when he’s putting his hands out like “okay. Okay it’s safe now, I haven’t destroyed it, I fixed the plant, I can still fix this.” This look right here to me harkens back to his equally gut wrenching line in FM: “I can always do better”

Then, a little animation detail I appreciated is that as he reaches for the jar on the counter he misses it at first because he’s refusing to break eye contact with the plant. He’s so determined to not let it die. He won’t give up on it or the relationship he feels it represents.
