This fantastic mosaic is Byzantine & depicts a duck, lotus flowers and a crocodile (….!), leading me to believe the mosaicist has never seen one, but assured the commissioner he definitely had. The mosaics are from the east church at Theodorias (Qasr in Libya) 🕰️c540AD 📷Jona Lendering #MosaicMonday
