Think about it this way: if you could conclusively state AIs are not conscious, you would clear up a huge number of millennia-old mysteries about consciousness and make the greatest step in history towards putting bounds around the answer to the hard problem.

Are we agreeing? You seem to think "We can't say for sure" helps establish the plausibility of AI consciousness. I'm saying it doesn't get us anywhere; our reasons to think AI are conscious remain very weak. I can't say for sure that pantheism is false, but that doesn't change how I see rocks, eg
