One of the most magical moments of human connection was on 1-80 in iowa 20 years ago. I was already 10 over, with a semi in the lane over and an expensive truck was just tailgating me. Honking aggressively. I made eye contact with the semi. We both nodded, and both dropped to 25 miles an hour.

SoCal driving culture is incredibly stupid but I think it has evolved out of the awful infrastructure that forces everyone to drive cars on packed 20+ lane freeways every day. I always signal, as I was raised in a civilized society of drunk drivers.
