A good question that I would expect execs to be asking if they cared even the slightest amount about the product they're peddling!

If subtitles, the biggest selling point feature of running your own streaming service, is getting shat upon to make them easier to resell to other sites, why even bother with the service in the first place?

These new OOONA subs are not as catastrophically bad as the fully Netflix-compatible subs Crunchyroll was serving to users a year ago, but they still represent a significant downgrade in especially typesetting quality. Numpad notation positioning only, with no colors used. Plus issues like this too.

Remember when Crunchyroll tried to make their subtitles significantly worse a year ago? They backtracked on it at the time, but I suspected they were just delaying their plans to shift from Aegisub to OOONA, and sadly, it seems I was right: Crunchyroll is actively pushing OOONA subs to users now.
