I've talked in the past about how Hollywood films will never depict tabletop RPGs fairly because the people making them are myopically incapable of understanding a GM as anything other than a failed scriptwriter; sometimes it feels like a lot of GMs agree with that assessment!

Every time I post about the function of rules in TTRPGs I'm starkly reminded that there's a big chunk of the indie RPG sphere who think of TTRPGs as a. a performance being put on by the GM for the audience of their players, and/or b. a mechanism for the production of TV-episode-shaped narratives.
