Show PostMany years ago, our collection permits for El Palmar national park in Argentina were delayed for a morning, so rather than do the science we’d planned I got out my camera to kill some time. Show PostFor #Arachtober, here is a spider that's not a spider. It's Petrophila jaliscalis, a jumping-spider-mimicking moth - see the face-on spider pattern, with orange legs and sparkly dark eyes? I love finding these - I think they breed in my small goldfish pond, because the caterpillars are aquatic. 🌿🐙

Show PostThe aptly named Chrysina gloriosa, Arizona. I didn't have a proper white box to get even, soft lighting, but managed to preserve some detail in the reflective surfaces in the mirror-like stripes on its back - it's hard not to have them turn out either black or totally blown-out and overexposed. 🪲🐙
