In all the conversations about how to get kids back into school there is not enough focus on the syllabus itself. Why are GCSE kids, for example, still widely compelled to do all three sciences but not allowed all three Art, Music, Drama, given these industries are just as lucrative for our economy?

(I say this as someone glad to know all of them.) My teenage daughter’s generation, who watch well-made realistic TV or videos, get treated as adults, google everything, seem completely unconvinced by their syllabus. Are they better able to see the gulf between it and their lives?

I'm investigating how school refusal became so widespread. Aside from much bigger mental health reasons I also wonder if adult life retained more mystery to previous generations of kids. Were we easier to convince that algebra, oxbow lakes, French subjunctive could be crucial part of adulthood?

They do seem smaller. I’m 5’8 and 12 stone and the bike seems fine. The Burners are sturdy beasts. It’s an absolute hoot doing stuff on them. Us old guys are cooler than we think🤘🏻
