It’s fascinating that English progressives seem so keen to celebrate Burnham as a leftwing hope whereas in Scotland the view is ‘nope, it’s just words - prove it or beat it’. Independence provides a completely different prism. I feel genuine sympathy that English progressives seem to feel so trapped

Much is made of Scotlands bid for Independence with a lot of the traction based around the refusal by WM to sanction a referendum. What passes for "democracy" in Scotland is ring-fenced, framed & dictated upon us!

I voted no in the independence referendum myself, on the grounds that Westminster could be improved in everyone’s interest, and that trying to leave was a silly distraction. And then the next 12 years was Westminster proving beyond doubt that anyone who believed this is a dupe and a fucking idiot.
