I don’t really think about whether, say, the guy who runs my local hardware store is hiding some dark secret. If I found out I wouldn’t go there, but I wouldn’t feel personally betrayed. I understand being a patron member or watching YouTube essays feel like a more personal connection though.

Show PostI don’t think you can, therefore it may be better to just have a different type of relationship with public figures. One where they can’t betray you any more than any other stranger can.

Show PostWhat would that transparency look like? Genuine question. It seems more reasonable to just not take up a public platform if you've done something like this you regret so much. Geller unfortunately did not go that route.
