The Sphinx and the Pyramids of #Giza, photographed by Maxime du Camp in 1849. The chest area of the Sphinx had only recently been uncovered, previously the statue was covered with sand up to the shoulders.

What a charming #Egyptian bronze figure of a shrew! Since shrews are animals that find their way in the dark they were connected to the descending phase of the sun’s nocturnal journey. Late Period (746-332 B.C). On display at Museum Hohentübingen. 📷️ me

I’ve seen a lot of great historic doorways…this has to be one of the best! The 12th century Prior’s Door in Ely Cathedral 🤩 There’s lots of medieval painted decoration still in the cathedral and I’m sure this would once have been brightly coloured too, really bringing that intricate detail to life 😀

I love the chequered floor tiles at Holborn London Underground station. Chequered tiles are surprisingly quite unusual in tube stations, the only other station I can think of that has them is Hounslow central but there must be more?
