If the pardon power extends to everything except impeachment but also allows you to kill the people who might impeach you without legal consequence, then among other things the impeachment power doesn’t exist

Any reading of the separation-of-powers clauses that cashes out to “the president can be an unaccountable tyrant if he feels like it” are self-evidently wrong and you can sort of just work backwards from there
