We're a long way off from a level playing field in the battle between clean energy and fossil fuels.
Show PostWait, I thought we weren't supposed to bundle together other goals? Isn't this just "everything bagel neoliberalism"? Are we only allowed to consider co-benefits/co-harms if Very Serious Pundits say we can?
Show PostI've thought about this a lot. I don't think focusing on the health harms of fossil-fuel pollution is politically effective, except maybe for local fights in white suburbs. Most Americans have long already morally (immorally) accepted the externalities that our lifestyles impose on the black & poor.
Show PostProbably true, sadly. Especially since many of the people at risk from accelerated fossil buildout are black, brown, or poor. There's a grim political calculus that says, "Those people don't vote much anyway, and if they do, they have no choice but to vote Dem." Makes me queasy to type out.
