Why do I have to give up parks and libraries so a bunch of haves get their own homes?
Show PostBecause retirees paid property taxes when you were 27 to help you educate your kids and have sidewalks and potable water. Circle of life.
Show Post“I mean, 2/3rds of my property taxes go to schools and I haven’t had kids in school for 40 years! Sure, having good schools might be important if I were ever to sell my house to a young family like I had when I moved in, but I’m never leaving or dying.”
Show PostYou don't pay the same amount, though. Your neighbors pay yearly registration renewal fees and they pay tax on the gasoline they buy. Even if you don't personally drive, I believe you still receive some benefits to a well maintained transportation infrastructure.
Show PostI wonder how much of this is due to the practice of escrowing by mortgage lenders so that most borrowers never actually have to pay their property taxes themselves. Then, once the loan is paid off, they property owners have to actually pay it and they resent it.
