Having no idea what this game is, I was optimistic for a moment reading that title quote I thought "distributed development" was "people Work From Home, all across the globe" and "smaller core team" meant avoiding giant AAA scope creep. Alas.

i saw a post go by that said there were well over a thousand people credited in the game in stark contrast to the 75 person 'core team' and all i could really think was "oh that's why all the ceos think they can just fire most of everyone"

this was always my big fear with games because we've all already seen how it went with animation. popular shows built off the back of dead union leaders in Colombia and poverty wages in the Phillipines. There's so many options for leadership who stop caring whether their workers are being mistreated

The thing that's happening in games right now is that expectations of quality have not dropped even slightly but expectations of budget are cratering and so the pressure is being applied in the usual place: people's salaries
