Oh, no. I just realized Strauss is speaking off the cuff. He's suggesting permanent supportive housing needs to have on-site parking if people were living in their vehicles.
Show PostStrauss is now talking about how we don't have dedicated outreach and services for people living in vehicles, and that this will create "a clear road to a more stable life.. so that they can come inside into housing and shelter that is appropriate for them that meets their needs."
Show PostIt's very far removed from reality to blithely say everyone living in an RV in Seattle is capable of following "every law" that exists, and complying with rules defined in legislation passed downtown that they will probably never see
Show PostPeople in RVs just have to "follow some standard rules about taking care of themselves and their neighbors," Strauss says cheerfully, noting that they have to be on a waitlist for "housing or shelter." There is one shelter bed for every three homeless people in Seattle.
Show PostThe total budget to implement the RV ban, Strauss said, has "ballooned" to $8.5 million, including the cost of shelter storage (distinct from safe lots), more outreach workers, and the permitting program.
