@gugullig.bsky.social...but it's disappointing that the end of the closest race in Vic is announced on the morning of. I get why the AEC might want to be careful with announcing too far in advance, but given they're not always even in the seat (Goldstein's is in Mt Waverley), they're not truly public with short notice.
Show PostHaving engaged with the AEC's "declaration events" page a ridiculous amount over the past few weeks, publicly announcing declarations hours before they happen is pretty common. Presumably the candidates have more notice, and it's not like many people show up to these anyway...
Show PostAfter that, all but one seat in Victoria had been declared -- that seat being Goldstein, which went to a partial recount. That finished on Saturday, and I was hoping to go along to the declaration, but the AEC only announced it this morning, and it was at 10am, meaning I couldn't get there in time.
Show PostFriday had many declarations, but I went to Calwell's, at a pretty desolate warehouse in Epping. Like Essendon Fields, it had Scullin later on, but I couldn't make that, so I only ended up photographing Labor's Basem Abdo, elected after the most complex preference distribution in Australian history.
Show PostAnother one I was keen to go along to was Melbourne. At the AEC's office in Port Melbourne, two candidates showed up, but maybe not the ones you were expecting -- new Labor MP Sarah Witty and also Liberal Steph Hunt! As before, Hunt has no wiki page, and Witty's only photo is this one so far.
