@flyscinelson.bsky.socialFrom MBoC: What helps cells stay connected as they move together to shape tissues? A Drosophila study identified 22 genes involved in testis morphogenesis and uncovered new roles for Par-1 and RN-tre in cell migration and tissue organization. https://www.molbiolcell.org/doi/10.1091/mbc.E26-05-0234

Show PostThis week we just had a lab retreat where we connect over fun activities, discussion about lab values, and hiking (with some mushroom and soil sample collection). I’m so grateful to be part of the lab and make all this happen with a group of supportive colleagues!
Show PostOur lab is obsessed by hidden biology - protein products central to understanding how our cells function, but missing from standard genome annotations. Introducing new work from post-doc Eric Smith on alternative translational isoforms for heterochromatin protein 1. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Show Post🚨🚨Preprint alert!🚨🚨 We removed the main centromere 3 domain of Drosophila‼️ We designed an inducible dCas9-Fok1 system to cut 🧬 at unique sequences flanking the ~50-kb island where most of CENP-A sits. To our knowledge, this has never been attempted in a living animal!
