The very important thing to understand about these threats from the Kremlin is that their purpose is to generate headlines like this. Unable to coerce the UK govt directly, they aim to do it through scare headlines that shift public opinion.

It also gives me pause to remember my PhD supervisor, Christopher Hood, who died last year who was an active member of the academy and from whom I learned a huge amount (even more than I realised at the time!) in terms of scholarship and research.

Time to check our stases: Question of fact: what happened? Question of definition: what do we call it? Question of value: is it good or bad? Question of policy: what should we do? If you can't get an answer to the first stasis, then you certainly can't answer the rest of them. Humiliations galore.
