I wouldn't even call that forgiveness. It's more of a benign apathy. So long as I am not made to care about his crimes against me in the past by virtue of more happening today, I do not care about the man in the present. Again, how one comes to their answer to those questions is personal.

Speaking from my own perspective, I was violently victimized at a similar age. It wasn't sexual, it was a hate crime that nearly crippled me for life. The guy who did it was punished and, last I heard, is going about his life. I, personally, do not care beyond the fact he isn't doing more harm.

Again, I nor anyone else should judge how an individual person feels about this kind of revelation, but I do wonder how long we demand someone exile themselves for a wrong done and corrected and if the answer is forever, at what point is prison less punitive.
