I think that when artists wish for old DA, it's actually wishing for things to go back to before socials. IDK if people remember, but in DA heyday, artists weren't all sold on the idea of monetizing everything. People joined DA because they wanted a fun & friendly community of other artists first -
Show PostI only use it as a gallery now...and the saddest part? DA is the ONLY website that I use that has a "suppress AI" function in the settings. It did release that option due to the backlash. I don't forgive them for it all the same, but it is something I wish most websites had 😵
Show PostIt's genuinely where I got my start online as an artist, where I got my first commissions, where I met a LOT of friends (some whom I still talk to even today) I owe it so much, and to see what happened to it over the years...was actually depressing Especially the transition to AI
Show PostLRP: I was active on DA way in the early, EARLY 2000s when it was just barely a couple years old And yes, like any community, there was a bunch of weird stuff, a bunch of fandom infighting, etc But the website ITSELF, felt like a cozy hole-in-the-wall where artists could really hang out and share!
