So I think Sabin's feelings are really complicated when it comes to Gau and his father. He wants Gau to have a better relationship with his father than he himself had. But he also wants Gau's father to see that his "demon child" is actually a wonderful kid (a bit of self-projection, maybe?). 😭

I have the impression that Sabin has some baggage around his father; Edgar was the "favorite" child, and Sabin - being a weak and sickly child, afflicted with the same genetic disease as Stewart's brother - was always somewhat in Edgar's shadow in their dad's eyes.
