Still struggling to process the awful news of Perry Mehrling's death. I read almost everything he wrote and saw him often, most recently just a few months ago, when he was excited about a new project with the BIS to teach economics to central bankers from the global South. Can't believe he is gone.

When confronted with an election between a conventional center-left president who has respected #democratic institutions and an #authoritarian candidate who questions elections(...), the decisive issue (to The Economist) remains whether somebody is willing to cut government spending deeply enough.
