All the books I’ve read written in that time, they go and get the doctor in towns of that size. Unless you were near a hospital, that was faster, and there wasn’t more than one doctor in most towns.

I can’t even remember the title of the book now, but one i listened to had an ambulance in a small town in England before WWII. It pulled me out so much I actually checked with my dad when he remembered ambulances becoming usual, and googled it.
