New preprint with @fbaumdicker.bsky.social : Public genome collections are growing, but so is hidden sampling bias within them. We correct this bias for prokaryotes and show that across 402 species on NCBI, the effective number of genomes is 41% lower than the actual count. doi.org/10.64898/202...

Also, if mirror bacteria ever establish themselves (ie, reach a significant population size outside a lab), one would need to treat many other vertebrate species along with humans. It would be a colossal, even impossible undertaking -- best avoided by never allowing the creation of mirror bacteria
