This story makes it sound like the major problem is that the Trump Admin did this w/in 60 days of an election. Yes, that's a real abuse. But the major problem is they're basically threatening to denaturalize an opposition legislator, based on racist insinuations. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/u...

When people are like "WhY WoUlD TrUmP ShUt DoWn DaTa CoLleCtIoN?" it's because the data doesn't lie like the Trump administration. When people in power compromise independent data collection, THE FIRST QUESTION should be "WHAT THE HELL DO THEY WANT US TO NOT SEE???"

Yet more context to evaluate this week's announcement of NSF investment in "foundational" research. It is hard to build a foundation when the administration is actively undermining NSF capacity to issue awards and support use-driven basic research at institutions nationwide.
