@1teresaanderson.bsky.social"The tragedy in Nepal must serve as a wake-up call to accelerate the shift out of the #FossilFuel era & to significantly boost funding for action in frontline countries." @1teresaanderson.bsky.social on the @unep.org's announcement about the world missing the 1.5c #Climate target 👉 bit.ly/4gHmKB9
Show PostAs @kevinclimate.bsky.social has pointed out till he's blue in the face, including overshoot in scenarios and policy + relying on tech to deal with it, has always been about what's politically palatable / kicking can down the road (including by scientists) not what is known to be effective and fair.
Show Post5/ As historian of science and technology Jean-Baptiste Fressoz has recently written: "Climate expertise must shift from tech illusions to concrete proposals on sufficiency, redistribution, sectoral degrowth and structural change—or risk delaying meaningful action."
Show Post2/ The pattern goes like this: Oh dear we're going to overshoot, but don't worry we don't need to urgently stop burning fossil fuels we can... restore Natural Carbon Sinks. Scientists: We've taken another look & "the potential for NCS related to ecosystem restoration is close to zero"
Show Post& can we maybe look at the idea of #overshoot more critically? It's literally meaningless gibberish, since: beyond a tipping point, change becomes non-linear, so you can't ("overshoot" refers to the idea that we pass 1.5 degrees, maybe up to 3 & beyond, and THEN return to our safe operating space)
