"Chitons are cool" is the opening sentence of Chapter 3, "Rock, They Name is Mud" in my book 'Life Sculpted' (2023, @uchicagopress.bsky.social). Had lots of fun learning & writing about the impressive bioeroding abilities of these rocky-intertidal molluscans. #MolluscMonday

Fossil Friday! Here's a 500-million-year-old brachiopod from the Cambrian Marjum Formation of Utah, with its delicate chitinous setae preserved 😍. Specimen discovered by @cambriannelids.bsky.social during our latest field campaign in September. ⚒️

#FossilFriday brings canoodling Seymouria, a largely terrestrial Permian tetrapod thought to be a stem amphibian. This replica is from our collection, but the original is apparently at Carnegie. They're called the Tambach lovers, although Seymouria aggregations have been found elsewhere too. 🧪⚒️
