Also want to be clear that I'm focusing on the fact that I have the kind of neighbor who would write this kind of note when they leave, NOT on me as a recipient.

I think a lot of them don't actually want to know their neighbors very well lest they feel any kind of obligation toward other people outside their households.

Anyway, the NIMBYs who fight tooth and nail against multifamily housing are just so impoverished in their mindsets. Tell me you know nothing about what makes a neighborhood without telling me you know nothing about what makes a neighborhood. It is the way people care for one another, not SFH stock.
