Glad to offer my thoughts in this @npr.org Morning Edition report that aired today about how AI forecast models are changing the nature of hurricane predictions. The AI models aren't always the answer key (see Simon last week) but they're advancing predictions at a pace we've not seen.

The wild part is that there is still a lot of room for further improvement for the AI weather models. The way we initialize them is pretty crude, and more capacity and fidelity could be added thats missing, especially near surface and in stratosphere.
