Just returned from a month long trip, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, ferry to Corfu, ferry to mainland Greece, ferry to Italy, Austria, Germany, now in France, had my Swedish passport checked once exiting Corfu..... the joy of Schengen...

I think there’s a misunderstanding of the term “EU Accession negotiations”. Negotiation, in this sense, is primarily over how and by when an applicant will implement or align with each area of EU law (Acquis Communautaire), and then whether they‘ve done that. It’s not over *whether* they will.
