Seeing crocodiles at a zoo in Australia hit different because the keeper made sure to point out how little of them could be seen above water, and gave safety tips/warnings.

It's a mutually agreed upon cope. Hating your spouse is just "normal" and them talking about it openly with each other re-enforces that it's just how it is for everybody so they don't have to accept that they made a mistake. More-so for kids.
