I’m generally (mathematically) grumpy about “tax brackets” defined as discrete steps and laws that kick in at arbitrary income or wealth levels (eg 1M/year or 1B in assets). Someone making $999999/year is also doing well enough to pay a similarly high percentage. Use curves instead of steps!

I see. I was confused because "tax paid" typically IS a continuous function, via marginal tax rates. But you want the tax rates themselves to be continuous. You probably won't be happy till you get a C^\infty tax function, with smooth reflections in any lighting.
