Show PostWhat determines how epithelial cells divide when shape cues disappear? Our new work shows that division follows the axis of maximal stress anisotropy. This “principal-stress rule” links mechanics, proliferation, and homeostasis. Amazing work from @luanger.bsky.social. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Show PostHey #nucleus nerds, the JCS Special Issue on the Cell Biology of the Nucleus is now live! This was a pleasure to co-edit with Megan King @luskinglab.bsky.social.
Show Post1/ Mitochondrial Na⁺ links metabolism, Ca2+ signaling and disease. We know how it gets in, how it gets out, and proteins that use it. But: we've never actually seen Na⁺ in single mitochondria in live cells. We started with an unusual observation, went down a rabbit hole & found some cool biology .
Show Post[1/n] Our preprint-in-progress on RNA regionalization in Stentor is no longer in progress! Now @pnas.org 🥳 Turns out a single cell isn't a homogenous soup… it has molecular geography, including things like regionalized transcription factors. Think bicoid, but in a ciliate.
