"You're just making it up to look cool" is always a non-argument really. You can't engage with someone whose position is that you don't really think what you say you think, or that your experience isn't what you say it is. There's no point having the conversation.

I find it strange that some people refuse to believe this is the way our decentralised culture works now, that it's possible to be completely ignorant of hugely popular things that don't match your tastes and interests. People aren't lying about that because they think it makes them look cool.

Gas is $1.85 a litre at my local station and the majority opinion of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario is that we need more cars on the road. (Not even a joke, this was literally the government's argument on appeal. More cars = better.)
