One of the most famous wisteria sites in Japan is Ashikaga flower park, which has two transplanted vines that are at least 170 years old. The wisteria orchard forms an arch covering 1,990 square meters, so you can walk through the perfumed air in the shade of the blossoms.

Genus Wisteria includes four species: Japanese, Chinese, American & Silky wisteria. But the name is distinctly American. My fellow biologists will know the Wistar Institute & Wistar rats. Wisteria is named in honor of American physician & anatomist Caspar Wistar (1761–1818).
