One of my many highlights of SNP conference was having my youngest son, Matthew, by my side. He is on the cusp of adulthood, just as Scotland is on the cusp of statehood. My greatest task is to leave Scotland a better place - the best place it can be - for him.

It is ok, I hadn't bought it before, thought I'd give it a go. I'd buy it again, for use in porridge, a layer in fruit turnovers etc. I do buy jams at farm shop though.

We weren't beaten for it, but when I was at high school, we were chastised in English class for using any Scots words, as "improper". So why then are we studying the works of Dunbar & Burns, I asked? Standard reply of "don't talk back to me, boy" (in other words he knew it was idiotic)

I like to point this out to the Union Jack, flag-shagger brigade when they complain about being "invaded by people who don't want to integrate or learn the language". They never get it.
