Some of you might remember this story from the other place, but back when I was going into prisons to teach baking (& give that baking to ppl having a tough time) one of the guys I baked with said to me “I never knew I could be a kind person til now”……
Show PostThis guy has been in and out of trouble since he was a teen (he was in his 20s when I met him) and all he’d ever been told was that he was a bad person basically. I don’t know if he was associated with any gangs (it’s likely though) but hanging out in a kitchen, having a laugh, learning to make
Show Postcookies & seeing he could give them to other people to make them feels cared for showed him (even if only for a moment) that he could contribute positively to society. I think about him and the other guys I baked with quite often. It’s really easy to think “I’m a kind/good person” & leave it at
Show Postthat. But we often forget to check if we’re doing kind acts as well - and it’s possible to do kind things even if we dont think we’re a kind person &/or have done shitty things. Not everyone of course, but often people do ‘shitty’ things because they lack choices & resources.
Show PostThis is a really lovely offer.
