@iyamgregalton.bsky.socialRemember: Conservative premiers rarely make it to the next election, not since Ralph Klein. As soon as they are slightly unpopular, they are replaced before an election to get back in with "we're not the previous guy." Smith's days are numbered no matter what happens.
Show Poston the bright side, JJM helped get me published by writing a data-less piece on hypothesis testing in IR. I tested his hypothesis and found he and Walt were wrong saideman.blogspot.com/2018/12/myth... grand theory has always been a niche thing with a peak in the early 1990s
Show PostMearsheimer’s Putin apologetics stand out because they go against the IR theory that made his career. In Offensive Realism, states are inherently power seeking and revisionist, so Russia was always going to try to regain what the USSR lost. This “look what you made me do” BS is utterly discrediting.
Show PostFollowing Mearsheimer’s academic theory, post-Cold War Russia and the US-led Western alliance were destined for more conflict, so getting more relative power was smart—and if anything, NATO should’ve sought to expanded more, and more aggressively. He was also an Orbán booster. He’s clearly into it.
