Quail eggs, duck feet, ground bison, and freeze dried beef liver slices would not have cured Lucy. She would have still died. She would have very likely still refused to eat. But I know in my heart I would’ve fucking fallen for it. I would’ve bought that shit. No one is 100% immune.

My dog died last year, and she was in decline for a month or two beforehand. She basically refused to eat. Near the end, we were trying anything to keep the weight on. A few months after her death, YouTube started serving me a ton of ads for holistic, raw pet food. I mean, real hippie dippy stuff.

And if a loved one is given a grim prognosis, are you REALLY going to stand in the way of their hope? Are you gonna deny them that one straw they can grasp? I’ve never been in that situation, but I don’t know if I could do that. And I’m a massive asshole skeptic about everything.
