Excited to share our work developing the 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿, named after the phoropter used by optometrists to dial in eyeglasses prescriptions. It's a passive prosthetic foot that enables rapid forefoot and hindfoot stiffness adjustment, emulating a wide range of feet. ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/doc...

I'm already hearing rumblings from academic leaders that tenure clock extensions may be part of how early career researchers weather this new storm. A reminder that clock extensions are not the easy solution some think them to be: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... We must do better by junior faculty.

For faculty whose pre-tenure period has included the pandemic and the current chaos, a thoughtful departmental tenure review committee should be able to determine, to the extent it ever can be, who will likely be successful in the long run without extending the tenure clock ad nauseam.
