Horned Larks are now the most common songbird on the northern great plains. While driving, 100s fly up & away. But they are not the same Horned Larks that nest here & react similarly all summer long. Todays' are a subspecies that nest on the tundra & migrate south to take over from their cousins.

The reason we went to Saskatoon. Private guided tour to look for the endangered whooping cranes as they migrate south. Here are 3 of the 61 we saw. There are approx 540 in the Canadian flock and roughly 800 left in North America. #wildlife #birds #nature #WhoopingCranes #endangered #saskatchewan
