then they count as White. But I am a naturalized citizen of Singaporean origin and that attitude in US-side Indians is very familiar to me — there's also the idea that if they're of higher-caste and moneyed origins then they're superior to others. Except they're never going to be White.

I think a lot of it comes from casteism in India filtering through the process of assimilating into a country built on racism. There's this myth I keep running into with fellow American-Chinese people: if they are well-paid and go to good universities and are well-behaved by White standards +
